Is it Really Possible to be Better Than Other People?
Blowing out someone else’s candle doesn’t make yours shine any brighter. To begin with, the idea of worth is absurd. How can we measure such a thing? Billionaires aren't better than your average citizen, a college professor isn't better than a kindergarten teacher, a CEO is no better than their employees. All of us are dependent on each other. If we were to completely become self dependent, we would hardly have time to even breathe, let alone have time to explain to others why we're better than them.
Think about the necessary conditions to life. Food, shelter, clothing, if we want to oversimplify. The vacancy of farmers, construction workers, garments workers would throw the world into chaos, along with it our lives. These people have every right to decide they're too good for these jobs. What are we to do then? Tell them their job is just as important as any other? We certainly haven't been showing it. Of the examples mentioned all get paid pennies for their work.
With this in mind we should all be respectful towards each other. It's easy to forget that everyone contributes something to this world, even if it's a small contribution. Downplaying other peoples jobs, skills, achievements does not make ours any more valuable. There's no need to seek validation from others in such a way either. Purposefully trying to sabotage somebody to ensure you're "better off" than them is taking it a step too far. Become inspired by others instead of being envious of them.
Be proud of yourself, instead of expecting a pat on the back from someone else. Only you know the amount of time and work that was poured in to reach your goals. Being in constant competition with each other is just going to spread misery. Things like happiness, fulfillment, success are not finite resources, there's plenty to go around for everyone. So why fight over it?
