STIGMA OF WOMEN
Even an educated individual can hold uneducated beliefs, and the proof lies in a lot of people's views on women. "It's good for an eighteen year old girl if a forty year old man marries her. But if a forty year old woman marries a thirty-five year old man, she probably manipulated him." There's no need for thoughtless comments like "It's okay if the man does it."
A woman's journey is never ending, during her childhood she must not act like child (do read it again to take in the absurdity), she must learn to cook for her husband because apparently it is a well known fact that a man will combust into flames as soon as he enters the kitchen. When she is a teen she must cover herself up to avoid the gaze of perverted men who start drooling at the idea of her body. She must never raise her voice, she must not be too opinionated and the list goes on and on. After marriage she is the puppet of her husband, and her endless performance continues.
Old men do regularly exploit young girls and our society welcomes it. Marriage is a essential component of our lives, at least that's what is imprinted on our minds in this country. There's no greater shame than being unmarried, especially for women. The rush to get this "married" status leaves many casualties.
What most people don't realize is that a bad partner may end up taking the other's life prematurely or rather, they do yet choose to turn a blind eye. Do we only die when our heart stops beating? Sometimes we draw our last breath when our dreams are taken from us, when our individuality is stripped away.
Women are too into makeup. They take so long to get ready. They're emotionally unstable, they always act crazy. They complain too much. If she was prettier her husband wouldn't cheat on her. If she listened to her husband he wouldn't hit her, he's a good man who happens to be angry. "She killed herself" we say, while looking at bruises shaped like hands around her neck.
"Like a compass needle that points north, a man's accusing finger always finds a woman. Always." - KHALED HOSSEINI #ROKSINABLOG
